Minimally Invasive Treatments Offered by TIME Pediatric Dentists
The following are some of the minimally invasive treatments we offer right here at our Wylie practice:
Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF): SDF offers a conservative alternative to traditional dental fillings. When applied to your child's decayed tooth structure, the cavity-fighting liquid provides dual benefits. The silver component eliminates harmful bacteria, while fluoride helps remineralize the tooth enamel, preventing the decay from growing or spreading. SDF is ideal for halting the progression of tooth decay until a child is ready for a permanent restoration or the baby tooth naturally falls out.
SDF - The SMART Technique: The Silver Modified Atraumatic Restorative Technique (SMART) takes the benefits of SDF a step further. After applying SDF to stop the decay in its tracks, we place a tooth-colored glass ionomer filling, which covers any staining that may occur from SDF application. Moreover, the glass ionomer filling releases fluoride over time, further strengthening your child's tooth enamel and preventing the decay from progressing.
The Hall Crown Technique: The Hall Crown Technique is an innovative solution for cavities in baby teeth without shots and with little to no drilling. It involves placing a stainless steel crown over a decayed molar to seal off the decay and stop its progression. This technique works by isolating cavity-causing bacteria from sugars and starches, causing the decay to die off gradually. The procedure takes a few minutes to complete and is highly effective at halting the progression of tooth decay, keeping the baby tooth intact until it naturally falls out.
ICON Resin Filtration: White spots can appear on your child's tooth surfaces due to early decay or after treatment with braces. ICON resin filtration is a minimally invasive treatment that reduces the appearance of white spots without the need for anesthesia or drilling. The procedure involves gently etching the tooth enamel and applying a fluid resin that flows into the porous tooth structure, fading away white spots and treating areas of early decay. Next, we will use a curing light to harden the resin and polish your child's tooth enamel, delivering a seamless smile.
